Structure of the School
workgroups and worknets are the main forms of School's activities.
Main workgroups of the School are:
UCEBA — Ukrainian CEnter for BAt protection
HELP — monitoring and conservation of big predators
ABC — unification of Ukrainian names of mammals
GLIS — unification of methods for theriofauna censuses
RBU — mammals in Red Book of Ukraine and their protection categories

HELP — monitoring and conservation of large predators
Aim and tasks: development of research for monitoring and conservation of
large predators. Development of distance methods of observation, exploration
of the problem of conflict "large predators and the man", studying of
populations' dynamics and ensuring of protection status for large predators
species (first of all, for wolf, bear, bobcat). The name of the group means
"Help European Large Predators".

ABC — unification of Ukrainian names of mammals
An aim and tasks: regulation of national names for mammals, stabilization of
nomenclature, distribution of knowledge on history, etymology and borders
of use of different mammals' names. At 9-th School the new version of the

Unification of methods of census
Group GLIS, that was organised for unification of methods for census of micromammalia,
each year organize the special traning on census methods. Since 5th School, group GLIS extent tasks of this
action and together with groups UCEBA and HELP organize different special training for census of different
groups using different methods. Among them there are ustrasound detection of bats, phototraps for large mammals,
analysing of owl pellets, radiotelemethry. Traditional methods of mammals also are analysed: traps, tracks, etc.

Mammals in the Red Book of Ukraine
на 10-й Школі планується продовжити роботу групи (круглого столу) з проблем охорони
теріофауни та уточнення і зміни охоронних категорій аборигенних видів ссавців. Головними
дискусійними моментами залишаються проблеми надання охоронних категорій видам
адвентивної фауни та видам інвазійним, проблеми узгодженн національних та міжнародних
(зокрема, бернських) червоних списків, програм щодо відновлення популяцій видів, що зникли
на території України та суміжних країн в історичні часи тощо. Окремий блок питань, що активно
обговорюються на Школі, стосується проблем ведення біотехнії, перспектив обмеження
життєдіяльності популяцій тих видів, що складають адвентивну біоту і своєю присутністю
негативно впливають на аборигенну фауну.
