abstract

The results of the analysis of the development of paleotheriology in the Institute of Geological Sciences of the NAS of Ukraine from the beginning of the 20th century are presented. The directions of research, the contribution of scientists to their development and the main achievements mainly in the field of stratigraphy are discussed, the prospects of scientific research are characterized. The significant contribution of such scientists as Tutkovsky, Krokos, Zakrevska, Shevchenko, Prysiazhniuk and others is analysed. New locations of the Neogene and Pleistocene were discovered, terrigenous complexes, biochronozones and biophenozones of the zone were identified for that time, a detailed stratigraphic division of Ukraine was substantiated, and morphological features of remains and new taxa were described to a lesser extent.
