abstract

Described here are the structural features and operation principles of Golov trap. It is a tool used in studies of underground rodents in vivo, including mole voles (Ellobius), associated with the capture of live animals from their burrow systems directly in their natural habitat. The full-text Ukrainian translation of B. Golov’s original work (1954) is presented, as well as the description of the author’s experience on using this trap in studies of the northern mole vole on sands of the Siversky Donets river’s basin (Luhansk region). The technique of trapping and of temporary keeping of caught animals are reported. The trap is a bottle-shaped spiral construction made of steel wire and set into a tunnel of an inhabited burrow system, previously opened and checked for signs of vital activities of rodents.
