abstract

The issue of dormice popularization in Ukraine is investigated. The principles of such activity are substantiated: they are little-known, vulnerable and symbolic rodents. The modern world experience in this field and Ukraine’s achievements over the past 25 years are analyzed. It is shown that in our country such popularization is at early stages and needs further intensive development. The results of the “Dormouse’s Year 2013” in Ukraine are presented, including successful implementation of a number of eco-educational activities concerning dormice in “Podilski Tovtry” Nature Reserve. Promising ways of dormice popularization in Ukraine are determined. In particular, carrying out ecological actions for youth such as “House for dormice”, creating volunteer groups to study the dormice, creating paper products about dormice (leaflets, booklets, posters) and the collaboration of scientists with media to raise the population’s awareness of dormice. The first steps already taken in some directions are noted as well.
