abstract

The Paleontological department of the National Museum of Natural History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is one of the centers for paleotheriofaunal study. Ivan Pidoplichko began the regular study of the remains of mammals from archaeological sites. He founded and led a group of paleozoology researchers in 1935. In the 1960s and 1970s years, this scientific group included V. Bibikova, N. Tymchenko, V. Svystun, N. Korniets, V. Topachevsky, O. Zhuravlyov, and P. Puchkov. This study is devoted to sharing the results of their scientific activity. Scientist Valentyna Bibikova (Zubareva) studied the Pleistocene and early Holocene faunal complexes. Natalia Bilan (Tymchenko) researches the morphotypes of mammals from the times of the early Slavs and the Middle Ages. Ninel Korniets studied the mammoth theriocomplex. Archeozoological research still be an essential part of research programs at the Paleontological department of the modern NMNH, NAS of Ukraine.
