A significant part of research at the Department of Zoology of Kharkiv University was devoted to the ecology and features of the biology of small mammals. In particular, the species diversity, distribution, reproduction, nutrition of small mammals and methods of combating them were studied. Mammals of artificial plantations, forest edges, field protection strips, arid regions, irrigated and forested areas were investigated. Ecological and physiological features of rodents, adaptation of mouse-like rodents to seasonal changes in the external environment were researched at the department. Another direction of research was the study of natural foci of infectious diseases in rodent populations, in particular, natural foci of tularemia. |
