Materials
on common names of mammals used in the village of
Libukhova, Lviv Oblast, were collected and summarised.
The list of vernacular names of mammals used in
everyday life by is compiled and presented. The
specifics of the local dialect and the Boyko dialect,
as well as the proper names of mammals are considered.
The purpose of this work is to popularize and present
to the general public the names of mammals used
in this locality, which is a very small and remote
village in the Carpathian Mountains. The author
also aims to show the richness of the language and
to identify ancient names that have survived to
this day, in particular in local dialects and in
the language of the older generation. |
